Struisie Day/Kwagga Day - Glance through history

For the first two years, after the amalgamation of the Farmer Boys' - and Girls' High Schools in Oudtshoorn in 1963, only normal league matches between Oudtshooorn High School and Outeniqua High School took place.

The interschool showdown, Struisie Day/Kwagga Day, as we know it today, came into existence in 1965. It is therefore the 43st year in which this exchanged between Oudtshoorn(Struisies) and George(Outeniqua), making it the oldest interschool event in the SWD.

Struisie Day/Kwagga Day took on a new dimension in 2005 when it became part of the prestigous FNB CLASSIC CLASHES series. Last year it was hosted in George and in 2008 it is Oudsthoorn High School's turn.

Many past Springboks have put their bodies on the line for their Alma Mater during Struisie Day/Kwagga Day. Names like André Bestbier and Barry Wolmarans (Struisies); Johan Heunis and Marko Wentzel (Kwaggas) come to mind.

This exceptional interschool sporting event is characterised by excellent sportmanship and enthusiasm. The train journey which has been undertaken on a few occasions has only added to the great enthusiasm experienced by learners, parents, staff and past scholars. This is also emphasised by the interest shown in the annual 'Old-Boys' match between the Struisies and the Kwaggas.

Win or lose, at the end of the day everyone is happy to have been able to share in the great battle between these two prestigious and traditional school.
